Hi. I am a native of Savannah, Georgia. I graduated from Armstrong State College in 1995 with a bachelors degree in Psychology. I then went to Georgia Southern University and received a Masters Degree in Counselor education with a community focus and a school counseling focus. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. I have experience working in both mental health and school settings. This year marks the start of my 22nd school year in Savannah Chatham County Public Schools and 29 years a counselor. I have a passion for working with students and helping them to succeed. I have one daughter and am married. In my spare time, I enjoy writing children’s books, cooking, exercising, spending time with my family and friends and taking daily walks with our yorkie, Scruffy. I look forward to working with students, parents and staff this year.

The Role of the School Counselor
School counselors collaborate with ALL students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the community to help students with their academic and personal success. School Counselors provide individual counseling, group counseling and classroom lessons to students throughout the year based on their needs. Academic, Career, and Social/Personal are the 3 domains in which school counselors work with students. School Counselors build comprehensive school counseling programs and curriculum that are developed around each schools specific needs within these 3 domains.
The School Counselor's role is to support the academic development of students which can mean identifying social and emotional issues and trauma that may hinder academic success. School counselors work with students on issues that may impede their ability to be successful in classrooms. School Counselors also work with the community to make referrals if more intensive interventions and supports are necessary.
Comprehensive School Counseling Program services include but are not limited to...
- Academic Tracking/Advisement
- Small group lessons
- Referrals to outside community agencies
- Psychoeducation for Students
- Crisis screening and response
- Schoolwide Classroom Lessons
- Anger and anxiety de-escalation
- Restorative Justice
- College and Career Inventory and Planning
- Student Clubs
- SEL Lessons
- ...and so much more!
