1. Instrument
- Students can rent or purchase instruments from the following reputable music stores.
- Portman's Music 7650 Abercorn st, Savannah GA 31406
- Music and Arts 7805 Abercorn st, Savannah GA 31406
- Nova Music. 6014 Highway 21 Rincon, GA 31312
- If you choose to buy an instrument please talk to Ms. Washington first about good brands and places to buy from.
- While instruments from Amazon or Bay might be inexpensive, they break quickly and cannot be serviced at any repair shop. It is usually more cost effective and better for the student to rent good student brand instruments from one of the above music stores.
- PERCUSSION STUDENTS: All percussion students must have a bell kit, drumsticks, xylophone mallets, and a stick bag.
- The bell kit can remain at home for practice, but the stick bag should come to school with students as their instrument.
2. Accessories
- All instrument accessories can also be bought at the above music stores, but most of these items can also be bought online using websites like Amazon.
- Flute: cleaning rod, cleaning swab
- Clarinet and Saxophone: cork grease, cleaning swab, 2.5-3 strength reeds, buy in boxes of 10. A box of 10 reeds should last students about 2-3 months. Students should have at least 3 working reeds in their case at all times!
- Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba: valve oil, slide oil, slide grease
- Percussion: Stick bag, drum sticks, xylophone mallets
3. Music
- Students will be given a warm up binder at the beginning of the year which they will keep for the remainder of the year. This is their primary resource.
- All method books used in class will be given to students during the class period and collected before they leave. If students need to purchase a book for practice at home, you will receive more information through the Band App.
- Sheet music will be distributed to students in class. They should keep this in their warm up binder and use sheet protectors. The sheet protectors will be given to students with the sheet music.
Band App- Communication
Regular communications and announcements will be sent using the Band app. This app can be downloaded from your phone's App Store, or can be accessed as the website band.us. Please make sure to sign up for this app using the QR code below as it will be the main way I communicate important information.
